Here are the new (effective March 11, 2003)
insurance requirements. Please look at them carefully. There are substantial
differences from what we had last year.
Highlights: All planes now have a currency
requirement (3 hours in the last 180 days) and new requirements on the
checkouts. Double-check and make sure you are current in the make and model
before you fly. Also, make sure you have a written check-out in your logbook
for the same make and model as the insured plane.
Additionally, with the Six you now must have a
minimum 200 total hours and with the Mooneys, you must have a minimum of 250
hours.

the insured aircraft prior to acting as pilot in command:

With all planes
A member may receive dual flight instruction in the insured
aircraft from a certificated flight instructor to meet these requirements.
Comment from the Board of Directors:
We were recently asked 2 questions about these
requirements.
How much of the time in make and model (assuming it will all be done in the club's plane) must be with a CFI vs. a club member who is current?
Based on what the policy language, all the 5 or 10
hours (as required) must be with an instructor. Likewise, if you are no longer
comply with the currency requirements, your flight time required to get current must now
be with an instructor.
What is meant by the same “make and model of the
insured aircraft”?
Make is the brand of Plane (i.e., Piper or Cessna) and
model is the plane’s number (i.e., PA-32 or C-177RG). This means if you have hours
in a 260 hp Cherokee Six, that would apply to the requirements (it is a PA-32). However, time in a
fixed gear Cessna 177 will not qualify, as it is not the same model. Even if you have the insurance-required PIC time,
you must still have a check-out in each individual plane by a club-authorized instructor, per club rules.
